I may have something exciting on this front in the not so distant future, but for now I’m going to go with a Strawberry Mint Julep because I have been working with Yellowstone and Ezra Brooks this summer, and recently went out to Kentucky wherein I was inundated with bourbon and joy! I also got to go to Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, where I Julep-ed like a qweeeehn.
Strawberry Mint Julep
It’s strawb season and you look like you need a nice cold drink!
8 mint leaves
1/3 oz strawberry syrup (optional bar-spoon of balsamic vinegar)*
2 oz Yellowstone Select
Crushed ice
Strawberry and mint to garnish
Muddle the mint with the syrup at the bottom of a tall glass. Add bourbon; add crushed ice and stir until mixed. Garnish with strawberry and mint. Voila!
*for the syrup :
Simmer a punnet of finely chopped strawberries with 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water until boiling. Take off the heat and let sit for 12-24 hours. Strain. Yields around around 15 oz.
