Curiously timely, it is Robert Burn’s Night on 25th January. For those not au fait, it is a celebration of the life and poetry of good ‘ol Robbie Burns, creator of Auld Lang Syne. A Rob Roy is essentially a Manhattan with Scotch; and today I’m using Laphroaig because it’s peaty, delicious, and I shot an ad with them in December and therefore they’re maaa bois. If you don’t like peat, I’d switch it out for a Speyside delight, like Craigalliche or Glenfiddich.
Rob Roy
1oz Laphroaig 10 year
1oz Glenfiddich (or other Speyside Scotch)
1 oz Martini Rosso
4 dashes of Angostura bitters
Stir WELL over ice. Strain into a chilled Nick and Nora or Martini glass. Express the oils of an orange peel over the cocktail and then discard. Garnish with a cocktail cherry.
Slàinte Mhath!
