Walking for the first time since my Tibial Plateau injury, 7 weeks after surgery. I had knee surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto on January 16th 2022. I took my first steps on February 26th 2021 (using a cane) and unaided, cane-free steps on February 28th. I am told my recovery has been really quick, which is excellent news. Luckily I was in good health and good shape before I broke my knee and I rested a lot during my recovery, meaning I had the best chance at healing. I can now finally get a little independence back by walking on my own! I can also now walk up and downstairs, which is major progress. Broken knee surgery story and scar reveal. Following on from last week's in hospital video, I tell you what went down with the surgery to fix my tibial plateau fracture. The fracture is a rare type of broken knee and required intense surgery to fix it. Originally, I thought I was going to have one pin in my leg and some bone grafting, so imagine my surprise when I saw the X-ray of my leg for the first time! I have a plate and 8 screws! The surgery went well but unfortunately, the pain management afterward did not. I was in excruciating pain for around 36 hours which was ...yeah, HORRIBLE. I am now recovering at home and my scar is beginning to heal. I am still unable to walk for a few weeks and have to use a walking frame.
